Forklift Safety Training Program

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Webinar?

A webinar is a LIVE training session done via online virtual classroom as if I were there conducting an in-person training class at your facility. You or an employee simply log on and go through the course with the ability to ask questions and interact with the instructor. We cover the same material as our on site training, and right now IT'S 25% OFF our normal rate.

Is your forklift training course approved by OSHA?

OSHA does not certify or accredit any one particular company, program or trainer in forklift safety. They do, however clearly lay out the requirements and topics to be covered. Our program follows these guidelines closely and here is just some of the content: the stability triangle, proper load handling, how to read a data tag, dock operations, narrow aisle lifts, pallet jacks, safe re fueling and battery charging, proper PPE, classes of lifts, emergency tip over procedures and much more.

Do I need to train my forklift operators?

The short answer is YES! Even if OSHA didn’t require training, it’s still a great idea. After all, the end game here is to reduce workplace related injuries and improve workplace safety. But OSHA does require this training and we can help. It’s spelled out in the new OSHA regulation (29 CFR 1910.178(l)) “Prior to permitting an employee to operate a powered industrial truck (except for training purposes), the employer shall ensure that each operator has successfully completed the training required by this paragraph (l), except as permitted by paragraph (l)(5).”

I heard something about the new OSHA rules, what kind of training does the new OSHA standard require?

Training must be Formal and Practical. That means a combination of classroom ( video, computer based learning, lecture and Q&A ) along with hands on demonstration, exercises and evaluation along with a written test.

Can I have someone come out to our facility and do on-site training?

Irwin Training Solutions specializes in on-site training. We can either train the operator or conduct a “Train the Trainer” course with a special emphasis on what is done from a trainer perspective. There are no special or unique "Train the Trainer" requirements. Anyone who has the requisite experience and knowledge to train and evaluate lift truck operators can be assigned a your organization’s trainer.

One way we separate ourselves from the competition is to come to your facility, conduct on site training, shoot video while there and incorporate a professional “custom” module into the CD ROM included with the course.

I hear a lot about “certification”. What does OSHA mean by that?

The responsibility rests with the employer to certify that each lift truck operator has received the necessary training and has been evaluated and proved competent to operate a vehicle. Certify in this case does NOT mean that a trainer has certified their future performance, just that the training has taken place according to the OSHA standard. The certification must include the name of the operator, the date of training, the date of evaluation, and the identity of the person(s) performing the training or evaluation.
