I'm Joe Irwin and I've had over two decades of forklift and heavy equipment experience. It all started in the military working on and with a variety of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles overseas and the safety training involved with such equipment. After college I started with one of the largest Fortune 500 companies' rental equipment yards and from there a series of forklift dealerships.
This is where it gets interesting, or as interesting as forklift safety can get. I completed a week of intensive "Boot Camp" training at one of the America's oldest and well respected forklift manufacturer's corporate headquarters in Kentucky learning ALL aspects of forklift safety, operation, safety training, etc.
Finally, after years of debate, OSHA passed a comprehensive set of training guidelines in 1999 which clearly define how lift truck operators are to be trained.
